The works of Ken Kalman

I call my map pieces "Topicals."Each piece has a different personal meaning for me. I can use my childhood experiences (for example:building model airplanes), express political and social issues, etc. using my maps.

It is very cleansing, immediate, and satisfying to work with these materials using this process. This work balances the large scale aluminum and copper sculptures I fabricate. It is like fresh air to work with my collection of maps. There are so many adventures I get to have just collecting all the different types of maps. I am always looking for old interesting maps.
